Crime

Crime Statistics can be used for a wide variety of purposes including the assessment of  home or vehicle insurance premium levels and credit worthiness.

Every police authority in England, and  Wales publish details of crime incidents by fourteen crime types such as,  burglary, vehicle crime, robbery, etc. Each crime incident carries latitude and longitude locational tags which identify exactly where the crime took place. The data is published on a monthly basis and the information has been aggregated to produce a year’s worth of data and linked to postal geography to create a database with detailed crime information down to the full unit postcode.  This means that the data can be easily linked to any database through a simple postcode match and used very easily.

The data shows strong geographic variations and the map to the right illustrates the detailed nature of the data by showing that the very highest burglary rates in the Oxford area are heavily concentrated in the city centre.
